Do You Need a Backyard Firepit?

Depending on how the weather turns, you may find that you enjoy sitting in the backyard at specific times of the year. It is not uncommon to consider different ways to improve your back patio or deck - maybe you've considered a gazebo or garden, or even a firepit to keep yourself warm on cooler evenings. Do you need a firepit to enhance your backyard entertaining, however? It can be a solid investment or a folly, but if you consider the pros and cons you will find you've made the right decision for home improvement.

Here are a few points to consider if you have thought about installing a fire shoppe in your backyard:

1) How often do you sit out in the backyard? Do you think the addition of a firepit will inspire you to spend more time outside? The good thing about firepits is that you can use them year round - for cozy conversations during the fall and winter and marshmallow toasting and hot dog roasting in the summer. If spending time outside is a favorite activity, you may want to improve the experience with a comfortable firepit setting.

2) What is your budget? Firepits come in a variety of styles and sizes. Some are merely portable iron bowls you can find in a home improvement shop, while others are brick structures that require professional construction and installation. Some will burn wood, others work with gas. The type of firepit you want may not correspond with the money you are able to invest, so make sure you go over your finances before you make a firm decision.

3) Are there any obstacles to installing a fire shoppe? Having a place where you will have an open flame may affect your home insurance. Also, if you live in a condo or other planned community there may be restrictions to what you can have installed in your yard area. Check with your insurance company and HOA or board to see if any regulations prevent you from setting up something.

If nothing stands in the way of your plan to enhance your backyard relaxation, you next want to research what kind of pit you want. Do you have an existing deck or patio? You may be able to build onto it and install a gas line for it. If not, you may wish to landscape the backyard altogether with the firepit as the focus. A local contractor or backyard leisure store can offer you many ideas.

Enjoy your nights before the fire, no matter the time of year. A backyard fire shoppe will keep you warm.

Purchase Garage Doors That Work

If your home has a carport, you have the perfect means to keep your vehicle safe. This personal shed connected to the house keeps your cars safe from rain, sun, and even intruders. Many homes have this feature. However, it is important to have sturdy and properly functioning garage doors so that the carport can carry out its intended purpose. Whether your carport entry needs repairs or you need a totally new installment, these services are available to you so that your vehicles and other equipment can remain safe. You will also be able to get in and out of it with ease.

Whether you are looking for a particular style, color, or type of garage doors, you can have exactly what you're looking for in no time. There is a carport entry that will suit your house better than any other will. In addition to being a protector for your cars and storage for your other valuables, these entries can actually give your house a fresh, elegant look. This can increase the value and beauty of your home! For instance, there are custom wood style entries that give the house a unique look not many people on your block may have. This will indeed allow your house to stand out in the crowd.

Perhaps your current garage doors need to be replaced. It is definitely possible for you to find newer, sturdier entrances for your carport. If the entry gates keep getting stuck, are rusted, broken, cracked, or anything else, it is time for a change. There are new entrances that are built to last and won't break the bank. They will also give your home a more polished look than the previous entrance did, which might have been an old and outdated style. Call a professional carport company to have a new installment made on your house.

If you are satisfied with your current equipment, there is nothing wrong with that either. But it may not be up to par after years of constant use. You don't have to change your entry gates completely, but please make sure they are still properly functioning. Repairs are also available to those that need them. These days most people have electronic entry systems. Believe it or not, but there are issues that can arise even with electronic systems. Door jams and malfunctions can require the help of professionals. When these carports don't close or are stuck open this can put your belongings at risk.

If you're thinking about having your garage doors installed or repaired, fear not! There are always specials available so that your pockets won't get empty. And your cars and other personal belongings can continue to have the ultimate protection that they need. So, don't put this off. You can drive out of your carport with complete and total ease without the door getting caught. You don't have to park your vehicles on the street due to malfunctions. Get a repair or installment today!

Medical Bill Help: Compare Healthcare Costs Before Proceeding With Treatment

The costs of medical and health care services have been rising steadily for many years, and American consumers are feeling the pinch in a big way. Many American individuals and families are now facing extremely high medical debts, some of them for fairly routine or minor health care procedures or treatments. With the private insurance system looking to offset costs, and very little in the way of a safety net for consumers, medical bankruptcy threatens many thousands of families each year.

Now, medical advocates are telling American patients to go a step further than many of them are accustomed to: new guidelines from experts in the industry suggest that consumers should be asking medical providers about how much a certain procedure, treatment or even a consultation may cost before they ever step in the door of the medical office.

Barriers to Asking Questions About Healthcare Services

In prior times, most patients were not used to asking their doctors what something would cost - there was a kind of intuitive understanding that since medical care is something that nobody wants to skimp on, it's not a situation where prices can be negotiated. Over time, that led up to a system where insurance plans, largely those provided by group employers, covered major costs, leaving a patient with a straightforward co-pay or deductible that would represent their total financial responsibility.

These days, even a group plan doesn't protect the average consumer from receiving extremely expensive medical bills after getting nearly any kind of health care service. Larger co-pays, larger deductibles and co-insurance mean looming costs for many Americans as medical costs continue to skyrocket and other issues like deceptive out of network charging leave many patients with much more debt than they thought they were going to incur when they arrived at a hospital or other facility.

Can Americans Shop for Health Care?

What new reports are showing is that the best way to shop around for health care is to ask your insurance company. Most of the efforts at cataloging the various rates that different providers charge for services are done by big insurers like CIGNA, Anthem Blue Cross, and other multi-state insurance companies. Patients can also ask their insurance company which providers have a contractual plan that forces them to charge a certain set price for a given medical service.

Over time, this trend will probably continue, to the point where American patients routinely ask their insurance company to help them shop. For most enrolled members, the insurance company has a vested interest in that person getting the cheapest medical care possible. While these kinds of partnerships between private insurers and individual patients can help both parties to rack up less medical debt for the same kinds of treatments and procedures, there's also a great need for more patient education, where consumer advocates are standing in for states and the federal government when it comes to providing fixes for a problem that is challenging the majority of American families today.

Top 5 Most Effective Autism Strategies

Autism is increasing at an alarming rate. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that the prevalence had increased to 1 in every 88 as of March 2012. While the cause of autism is still unknown, there are specific strategies that have been identified as most effective. Here are the top five most effective strategies.

1) Visual Schedules

Research clearly shows the successful results of implementing visual schedules with children. These schedules allow daily routines to be predictable, with clear expectations. Fear of the unknown causes anxiety. Children with autism or other special needs have a difficult time communicating their feelings of anxiety. Frequently this anxiety is demonstrated in negative or inappropriate behavior. Care givers must keep in mind that all behavior is communication.

Establishing and following a visual schedule reduces unexpected events or situations and assists children in predicting and preparing for transitions. Schedules themselves must be predictable. They are best as visuals, even when the child is able to read. A written schedule may be implemented later with caution and careful progress monitoring. In addition, they should be kept in the same location at all times. There are several resources and software programs that assist with schedule creation and universal graphics.

Children must be taught how to read and interpret the visual schedule. A "check schedule" transition cue is used to communicate to the individual each time he or she is to transition to a new activity. Visual schedules are effective at school and at home.

2) Environmental Considerations

Visual and auditory stimulation in the classroom and home must be taken into consideration. The classroom should be organized and predictable. The scissors should always be found in the same location. Homework is turned in in the exact same way each day. This is important in the home as well. The child's personal belongings have designated "homes." For example, a backpack is always found on the same hook. A favorite toy or book is on the same place on a book shelf.

Auditory stimulation must be examined as well. Do the chairs make a screechy noise as students move around? Is there a slow hum to the lighting? Is the fluorescent lighting too bright? Will a lamp set a different, calming mood? These considerations will vary from child to child; however, all visual and auditory stimuli must be examined. Be sure to think outside the box. Would a blue room be more calming than a yellow room?

3) Visual Structure

The environment needs to be organized visually to help children identify and comprehend what is expected of them. Color coded folders for each content area may be coordinated with the visual schedule. Clearly defined areas, such as work stations, tape on the floor, and labeled centers provide structure. This may be done in the home as well. Some examples include:

· a designated spot at the dinner table

· a visual schedule for bedtime routine

· organized dresser drawers by color and items

· specific containers for each toy

· a daily schedule for weekdays and weekends

4) Alternatives to Verbal Communication

Some children may have significant impairments in expressive communication. Current technology may be very appropriate to increase appropriate behavior and independence. The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) has been very effective. This is a system developed in 1985 that allows children to initiate conversation. It is not expensive and doesn't require complex equipment.

Other options include voice output communication devices. This is a very exciting area with all the latest technology and apps being created. Some devices are quite large and more durable for children who may not understand how to handle something with care. Other devices are so small they may be hooked to a belt loop for easy use out in the community.

Augmentative communication is a great strategy. However, it is important to understand the universal means of communication and ensure the device or method may be implemented with any child or adult, not just school personnel or caregivers. A back up system of communication should be available in case of a device malfunction or misunderstanding on the recipient of the message, i.e. a grocery store worker, a new student, a substitute teacher.

5) Direct Instruction of Social Skills

Many children with special needs will benefit from direct instruction in social skills. Most do not learn interaction skills by simply being placed in social environments. Social skills must be taught in the same direct instructional way as any other academic content area.

Research has shown social stories and social scripts to be highly effective. Social stories target behaviors that need to be modified or reinforced in real life situations. Replacement behaviors must also be taught. Simply showing or telling the child what not to do is not effective. Social scripts are short scripts children learn and practice. For example, everyone uses a very similar social script when greeting a colleague in the morning. Some children must be taught these common scripts.

Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office 101 - A Book Summary

Dr. Frankel clearly identifies the common mistakes -101 in all--that women commit unconsciously to sabotage their careers. This book provides revolutionary guides to help the women of today eliminate the girl-like behaviors they became accustomed with, which hold them back professionally.

How You Play the Game

Unfortunately, women are not as trained to participate in competitive sports. It is only recently that women started making their marks in this field. Thus, most women do not know the rules of the game of business. They simply do not know how to play it--and more importantly, how to win it.

Some of the common mistakes women commit as they play the game of business are: pretending it isn't a game; playing the game safely and within bounds; working hard; doing the what you want; avoiding office politics; being the conscience; protecting jerks; holding your tongue; failing to capitalize on relationships; and, not understanding the needs of your constituents.

How You Act

Being successful in the world of business is not only dependent on your knowledge of how to play it. It is also important to know how to act, professionally. Dr. Frankel enumerates some unlikely behaviors in the workplace that can be hard career busters.

These are: polling before making a decision; needing to be liked; not needing to be liked; not asking questions for fear of sounding stupid; acting like a man; telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth (so help you God); sharing too much personal information; being overly concerned with offending others; denying the importance of money; flirting; acquiescing to bullies; decorating your office like your living room; feeding others; offering a limp handshake; being financially insecure; and, helping.

How You Think

Changing the way you think can greatly impact a change in your career. Note the beliefs and thought patterns you learn early in girlhood that you need to reconsider and then eventually forget.

Some of these are: making miracles; taking full responsibility; obediently following instructions; viewing men in authority as father figures; limiting your possibilities; ignoring the quid pro quo (something that's exchanged in return for something else); skipping meetings; putting work ahead of your personal life; letting people waste your time; prematurely abandoning your career goals; ignoring the importance of network relationships; refusing perks; making up negative stories; and, striving for perfection.

How You Brand and Market Yourself

Marketing oneself is as important as marketing a specific brand. Think of yourself as a brand that's needs to be marketed effectively. Alongside these come some important points that women need to particularly remember.

The following are some mistakes to avoid in marketing yourself: falling to define your brand; minimizing your work or position; using only your nickname or first name; waiting to be noticed; refusing high-profile assignments; being modest; staying in you safety zone; giving away your ideas; working in stereotypical roles or departments; ignoring feedback; and, being invisible;

How You Sound

Put special attention to your choice words, tone of voice, speed of speech and thought organization process. These usually matter more than the content of your speech. An articulately delivered speech will help you be branded as knowledgeable, confident and competent. Remember, how you sound comprises 90% of your credibility.

Take note of these common mistakes: couching statements as questions; using preambles; explaining; asking permission; apologizing; using minimizing words; using qualifiers; not answering the question; talking too fast; the inability to speak the language of your business; using nonwords; using touchy-feely language; sandwich-effect; speaking softly; speaking at a higher-than-natural pitch; trailing voice mails; failing to pause or reflect before responding.

How You Look

There is this common notion that "the best and the brightest are rewarded with promotions and choice assignments." This is entirely wrong. Those who are competent enough, sound and look good are the ones who

move forward in their careers. Statistically, research shows that 55% of your credibility comes from how you look; 38% from how you sound; and, only 7% from what you actually say.

Carry yourself properly by avoiding these mistakes: smiling inappropriately; taking up too little space; using gestures inconsistent with your message; being over- or underanimated; tilting your head; wearing inappropriate makeup; wearing the wrong hairstyle; dressing inappropriately; sitting on your foot; grooming in public; sitting in meetings with your hands under the table; wearing your reading glasses around your neck; accessorizing too much; and, failing to maintain eye contact;

How You Respond

It is important to know how to respond to the ways others treat you. And some of the common pitfalls women do as a response to a certain gesture are as follows:

Internalizing messages; believing others know more than you; taking notes, getting coffee, and making copies; tolerating inappropriate behavior; exhibiting too much patience; accepting dead-end assignments; putting the needs of others before your own; denying your power; allowing yourself to be the scapegoat; accepting fait accompli (irreversible or predetermined decisions); permitting others' mistakes to inconvenience you; being the last to speak; playing the gender card; tolerating sexual harassment; and, crying.

Medicare Parts A and B - All You Need To Know

Medicare is an innovative concept that was developed in the United States of America a long-time ago, around 1765. You can call it public health insurance that any American citizen is entitled to after s/he turns 65, subject to certain terms and conditions.

Those with disabilities and kidney failure that are permanent and below 65 years of age can enrol for Medicare. Individuals enrolling for Medicare are called beneficiaries. It takes care of most of the expenses, but not all medical expenses of its beneficiaries. However, the question is what all does, Medicare cover? It mainly covers four parts as listed below.

Part A or Hospital Insurance Part B or medical insurance Part C or Medicare advantage Part D or prescription drug coverage

Part A or Hospital Insurance

A retiring individual automatically gets access to Medicare Part A, mainly a hospital policy.

Part A of Medicare covers the following.

Inpatient overnight hospital stays Any ailment that requires nursing facilities those are skilled.( but not private nursing duties) A long-term hospital care Expenses incurred if a beneficiary visits any religious institution that operates as a non-medical heath care institution Home health care. (but not adult supervision) Hospice care Inpatient hospital and inpatient psychiatric care An obesity bariatric surgery

Medicare pays for the following under Part A.

Conveyance Community services Blood transfusion Anesthesia Regular meals Room service (however, not amenities like TV and VCR in rooms) Prescription drugs Chemotherapy Medical apparatus and other supplies Inpatient dialysis treatment, clinical trials, alcohol, and other substance abuse Interval care in hospice

Medicare Part B covers all that Part A does not. Outpatient (doctor's) services, treatments, fees, inpatient care and outpatient surgery all fall under Medicare Part B. However, Part B is not cost free and it does not cover cent percent medical charges it goes hand in hand with an insurance policy called Medigap. Medigap is an insurance policy that covers all the remnant liabilities that Part B does not cover.

Following are the services under Medicare Part B.

All kinds of transplants Laboratory services Screenings for breast cancer Other cancer screenings Speech Occupational and physical therapies Mental health care Prostheses A few screenings for heart attack and brain stroke deterrence Glaucoma tests Bone mass density measurement

Medicare Part B does cover the normal health care services but not major chronic illnesses. Medicare supplements maybe required here to cover the costs of such treatments and services.

Build That List

Why do you need a list and what will it do for you?? Let's take a look and you will soon understand why so many fail with their home based business or their attempt at email marketing.

First, what is a "list"?? A list is a following of subscribers that are interested in learning how to make money online. These people are paying money to find out how to go about finding people that want to buy their product, whether it be an eBook or a product.

There are many ways to build a good list of people that are interested in what you have to offer. Even though the seller of a product knows that the more people that see their product, the more sales they will make, this is where most people fail. They either do not know how to build a list or they just do not take the time to build a good list.

One way to build a list is to give something away in exchange for a name and an email address. Another mistake a lot of marketers make is they send too many emails to the subscriber and cause them to drop off the list. When a subscriber opens the same email several times a day, it becomes uninteresting and they just plain unsubscribe.

Another method that is used is to offer a free trial of a system in exchange for the name and email address. This is a way to get new people to subscribe, however, once a person has seen this method and tried it, they know what follows and they will just delete the email.

Most email marketing systems will work if the proper amount of time is devoted and you are persistent. The main focus is to impress this fact to your subscribers. When a person subscribes to your list, you must get through to them that the system you offer will work if they devote time to it. Do not go from one program to another hoping for a quick and easy system that will make you tens of thousands of dollars within a day or week. It will not happen.

OK, with all that said, now, what is the best way to build a good list of subscribers and keep them interested for the long term. There are programs that give you a step by step methods for list building such as some of the trial programs. As said before, do not make false promises, such as a fortune overnight. Secondly, do not flood them with emails. This does not work.

Why Haven't You Been Told About The AMAS Test?

With all the media talk about prostate surgery vs. taking drugs for prostate problems, you would think those are your only two options.

If information like this can save one more person from making a mistake with their prostate health, it will be worth taking the time to educate yourself on this important subject.

Are you aware that you can avoid surgery and drugs with proper testing in the first place?

Let's take a look at the facts when it comes to testing for prostate problems and look beyond the media headlines.

Better testing leads to more accurate information and a better diagnosis about the health of your prostate. And one of the keys is early detection with the RIGHT tests.

The most commonly MIS-used test is the PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen test.

Prostate-specific antigen - is a protein which is naturally produced by the prostate gland. Prostate tumors typically cause over-production of PSA, so when a blood test reveals an elevated level of the protein, it's a red flag that warns of possible problems.

Both cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH which is a swelling of the prostate, can increase PSA levels.

What doctors usually do next is to recommend a biopsy. This is the next step toward trouble. Prostate biopsies are painful procedures that can result in bleeding and infection which only worsens your problem - if you even have one.

And recent evidence shows that most of these biopsies are completely unnecessary.

In a 2003 study from the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, researchers set out to determine if fluctuations in PSA levels would reveal a single PSA test result to be unreliable on its own.

The conclusions of this 4 year study revealed that an isolated PSA screening with an elevated level should be followed with an additional screening several weeks later before proceeding with further testing or a biopsy.

Because the problem with a single PSA test is that PSA levels normally fluctuate and having just one test leads to over diagnosis of prostate problems.

Here is where the AMAS test is significantly better.

A more sensible and dependable way to screen for prostate cancer is a blood test called the anti-malignin antibody screen (AMAS). Anti-malignan antibody levels become elevated when any cancer cells are present in the body.

Most importantly, these levels rise early in the development of cancer cells, which means that cancer can sometimes be detected several months before other clinical tests might find it.

With an accuracy rate of more than 95 percent, the AMAS test is much more reliable than the PSA test. And the best way to detect prostate problems is a SERIES of PSA tests (as the Sloan- Kettering Trial concluded), WITH the AMAS test.

This powerful combination of tests will allow you to avoid false alarms which lead to painful biopsies, drugs and unnecessary painful surgery.

The more you learn about these tests, the more you will feel compelled to implement them.

You can find out more about the AMAS test at http://www.amascancertest.com.

As you can see, these are important tests to take over a period of time which can save you from unnecessary surgery and drugs.

Take control of your own health by educating yourself about tests, treatments and nutrition so that you can become more healthy and stay healthier in the long run.

Stop Complaining About No Job - This Is Your Big Government At Work In The Big Apple?

Sometimes I laugh when Democrats claim that Americans want jobs, and that these politicians are going to get in there, change economic policies, fixed everything, and get Americans back to work. These politicians can't do that, and they certainly can't do it with their left-leaning socialist policies. Oh, but they like to make big promises, as it helps them get reelected.

You see, everyone is now complaining that they don't have a job, but I would submit to you that many of these folks don't really want to work, they kind of like the idea of having an excuse not to, now they want the government to send them money. They know if they complain enough, jump up and down, occupy the park, and protest now and again they can get a continuous stream of podium pushing politicians to continue the promises. They don't really care as long as they get a check in the mail or better yet direct deposit, who has time to go to the bank when you are watching The View?

Then there are people who do have jobs, and when some disruption comes along they figure out that without a job they don't have any money. In other words they have to work so they can eat, realizing that there are people who are not working and eating on the government dole via their taxes. In other words, the folks who receive the services and get food stamps can't understand why everyone who isn't working is complaining.

Further, they get very angry when they find out that people who are working are losing their jobs, because they know that there will be less tax base coming to the government, and they may stop getting their free check in the mail. That just scares the crap out of them, and therefore they do whatever they can to make sure they vote in the next election for which ever politician continues to promise them whatever they want.

There was an interesting piece in the New York Times on November 3, 2012 titled; "For Some After Storm, No Work Means No Pay," by Shaila Dewan and Andrew Martin which noted; "Thousands of hourly workers took extreme measures to get to work following Hurricane Sandy with the fear that if they did not go to work, they probably would not be paid." Really, amazing now, you mean if you don't work you don't get paid, who'd have thought?

Well, this isn't news for anyone who is self-employed, anyone who works their butt off, and then has to deal with those same big government politicians making their life hell every time they turn around with more and more regulations, and more rules to appease the unruly masses who complain about discrimination, working hours, benefits, or free time off for such things as stress. Maybe it's time for everyone to stop complaining about having no job, and stop voting for politicians who believe in big government. You think?

Enjoy the Wisdom of Quitting Smoking and Live a Healthier Life

Smokers know very well that choosing between the charm of smoking and a cancer-free healthier life is next to impossible. It is very shocking that around half of the cigarette smokers in the world die from cancer. But, it's more shocking that even after knowing this fact, youngsters are adding themselves as smokers rapidly. Don't they love to live a healthier life? Of course not; as per human psychology, we love to feel the happiness of the near-future more, than the pain of the far-future. In addition, it is nothing but the outcome of their immature thinking smoking is an appealing activity. Another important reason of getting addicted to smoking is mostly some obvious but unpleasant ups and downs of life, where they find themselves helpless to find out any solution. There are many other reasons that I don't want to go in-depth.

Before we go ahead to our main topic, let's go through some traumatizing information about smoking.

• Around 80% of the smokers worldwide belong to low and middle class families • Around 6 million people die every year from cancer caused by tobacco • There are around 4000 types of harmful chemicals in tobacco smoke • More than 70 harmful chemicals of cigarette-smoke cause cancer • The tar in cigarette raises the threat of lung cancer, bronchial disorder and emphysema highly • Chances of cardiovascular diseases go up for the carbon monoxide in cigarette • Almost 50% of the children of the world are passive smokers

Now, when we have gone through up to this part, can we expect that at least one reader (who is also a smoker) will quit smoking? I know, you are about to plan, but feeling nervous. Then, is there any way to get rid of this killer addiction? Yes, there are different ways that you can follow. But, the safest as well as most effective way is your determination to quit smoking. Remember, if you are smoking for more than one year or you take more than six cigarettes a day, you'll feel several difficulties, mainly craving and withdrawal syndrome, on your way. So, be determined first and follow the guidelines mentioned below.

• Gather Reasons: First of all, gather as many reasons as possible for which you want to quit smoking. It is very important to increase your will power that will bring you the ultimate success. • Don't wait for the 'Fine Morning': If you have planned to stop smoking from one 'fine morning', then surely you are far away from the fine morning. Stop smoking today - right now. • Don't Surrender: You'll feel craving very often at first. But, always try your best to stop yourself for the next 10 minutes, and involve in some distracting activity, especially non-critical or interesting, if possible; but never surrender. • Don't have 'Just One': Mostly during this period, every problem seems bigger and more complex and people plans to take 'just one' to overcome the situation. But, in fact, at the end of the day it becomes four or five 'just ones' or even more. So, strictly you have to stay away from taking 'just one'. • Avoid Triggers: You must have to avoid places or situations that may trigger your urge of smoking. For example, smoking zone, parties, bars, and even colleagues or friends, who smoke. • Physical Activity: A moderate level of physical activity will help you reduce the urge of smoking. You can also go for a walk in the morning or practice meditation under some expert's supervision that will help you feel the difference and keep motivated. • Get Help of Near Persons: Find persons, who will help you being determined through providing moral help; though, there is nothing more powerful than your willpower. • No Alternative: Often people take help of tobacco in other forms to fulfill the urge of nicotine. But, it should be strongly avoided as it will keep you addicted to nicotine, no matter through which form and soon you'll back to square one. • Take Medical Help: If you still feel cravings or getting strong withdrawal syndrome, don't ignore it - consult with your physician immediately. Often it may be serious for chain-smokers and persons with a long history of smoking.

Remember, everyday you'll find some situations, when you'll feel helpless to control the urge. But, you also have to remember that each time you defeat a craving, you are one step closer to quit tobacco.

The Semi-Pros

Alan Mrozek brings to life the world of semi-professional football in his novel The Semi-Pros. The Semi-Pros tells the story of the Coalcrackers, a semi-professional football team from the small town of Waylon, Pennsylvania. Much like the town, the once mighty Coalcrackers have fallen on hard times and haven't won a championship or had a winning season in nearly twenty years. So in steps Mike Rader, quarterback of the last Coalcracker championship team and in many ways the Coalcracker's and Waylon's last hope of turning their ailing fortunes around.

In describing the hard scrabble world of semi-professional football Mrozek does an excellent job in conveying the love and sacrifice that goes into playing tackle football for no pay and little recognition. Semi-pro football is truly for those who love the sport and Mrozek lets you know that. He gives amazing detail of the game and how its played, so that anyone, even the most clueless of people can follow along and understand how football is played and won.

The problem with the novel is outside of the game details it doesn't have much else to offer. All of the characters, while endearing, are one dimensional and lack any sort of depth. We know Rader loves football but that's all we know about him Joe Welzack, head of the Athletic Club where the Coalcrackers play, doesn't seem to have any other aspect to his personality outside of his love for Coalcracker football and his role as team historian. Leah Marciniak, Rader's love interest, seems nice but the only thing we ever learn about her is that she had crush on Rader when she was young and how badly she wanted to leave Waylon growing up. Mrozek doesn't offer us any other side to the characters personality that isn't directly related to either the town or the sport. Without the added depth it makes it difficult to empathize with them in any way and to ultimately care about what happens to them or their town.

The other major problem with the novel is that at 440 pages it is about 220 pages too long. Some detail is good, but too much of it can bog the reader down in page after page of unnecessary information. Like I said, the detailed football information was great. It was nice to have a play by play break down of the games as they occurred but there are several games in the book and after a while those details become repetitive and boring. Also, other parts of the novel where just useless, such as the love affair between Mike and Leah. Leah first appears early in the novel as a love-struck teenager and doesn't appear again until the middle of the novel and even then there's no real explanation as to why they even like each other, let alone end up in a relationship. It is a storyline that could be cut completely from the novel and the story wouldn't suffer any.

All in all Mrozek offers an inside look at a world many didn't know existed, however the lack of attention to other details of the novel, such as character development, prevent The Semi-Pros from being the exciting and innovating novel it could have been.

The Man With The "Grasshopper Mind"

The title of this article also happens to be one of the "20 Greatest Headlines Ever Written."

Did you know, just changing the headline has been known to dramatically improve the effectiveness of an ad or sales letter by up to 1700 percent? Yes, headlines are that powerful--and that important!

However, over the last few years, I've noticed a proliferation of badly written--or just plain weak headlines--both online and off!

Particularly disturbing is the copycat syndrome. I can't even begin to tell you how many variations I've seen of the "Who Else" headline. For example:

"Who Else Wants To Write Great Headlines?"

By the way, the "Who Else" headline isn't new. It goes back many decades.

Here's the problem with copying a popular headline. When you have so many individuals copying a headline, it loses its effectiveness, appeal and uniqueness very quickly--especially on the Internet!

I have a much better alternative. Instead of copying someone else's headline, put in the hard work that's required and come up with your own classic headline.

Headlines that evoke some type of emotional response are the most effective and generally make more sales. Emotions motivate people into action. The stronger the emotion, the quicker the action. Therefore, headlines that make the reader excited about gaining something--or even more effective--afraid of losing something, will invariably produce the best results.

Using the proper words and phrases is critical. Below I've listed just a few of the words and phrases that, over the years, have proven to be very effective at grabbing the readers attention:

Save... Amazing... Finally... Love... Secrets Of... Announcing... Free... Luxury... Security... At Last... New... Bargains... Obsession... Breakthrough... Protect... The Truth About... Discover... How To... Rewards... Yes... Sale... You... Are You... Sex... Win... Improve... Do You...

After grabbing your readers attention, this is where you want to answer the question, "What's in it for me?" To do this, you have to know a little about your target audience. What are they interested in? What are their priorities? What makes them respond?

Craft your headlines to use words and phrases that will pique your potential buyers interest. If you are targeting people interested in starting their own home business, try phrases such as "Stay Home And Make Money" or "Kiss Your Job Goodbye Forever". If your product happens to be diet pills, try "Lose 10 Pounds In 10 Days".

A word of caution: There is a point where headlines tend to get unbelievable. Make sure that your claims are truthful and that your copy supports their truthfulness.

Once you have a firm grasp of the aforementioned basics, look around your house and select several different products, and write as many headlines as you can think of for each product.

Write variations of the same headline until you have exhausted all the ideas you can think of. This will be both frustrating and difficult at first, but it will become easier with practice. Remember, nothing worthwhile ever comes easy.

After you have your list of headlines, make sure each one passes the test for the following criteria for a good headline. 1. Does it grab the readers attention? 2. Does it answer the question, "What's in it for me?" 3. Is it truthful? If a potential headline does not meet these three criteria, rewrite it or eliminate it from your list altogether.

Continue using the process of elimination, one headline at a time, until you're left with what you feel are the three best and strongest headlines, based on the criteria presented in this article.

How will you know which headline is the best one overall?

Unfortunately, there's no way to know for sure until you test them against each other. The headline that pulls the most sales or responses is your winner!

To help you get the creative juices flowing, I've listed below my version of "The 20 Greatest Headlines Ever Written,". I've listed them in my own personal order of preference. Study them, dissect them, figure out what makes them great--then get to work writing your own. Enjoy!

Can You Make A Living On eBay?

Probably the most common question today, especially with so many folks unemployed is "can you make a living on eBay"?

The answer is yes. Not only yes, but absolutely yes! The question isn't really so much "can you make a living on eBay"? The question is "can YOU make a living on eBay"? Lots of people do. Can you?

What Does It Mean To "Make A Living"?

Making a living is a relative term. What do you need to get by? A single guy living in a one bedroom apartment with hardly any bills is going to have it a whole lot easier than the guy with a wife, 2 kids, a new car payment and a student loan. In his case, a regular job in addition to eBay on the side is probably the best bet. Eventually, through a lot of hustling, eBay can easily pass your regular income.

Anything you do has the potential to earn you a living. It all has to do with repetition. If I said, here's a lawnmower, go cut grass and earn a living, you'd probably say it's impossible. What if the lawnmower goes 10mph and is 52″ wide? All of a sudden, you can cut a lot of grass and make a living with it. This is true with anything. Once you do something one time and it earns a profit, you just have to "kick it up a notch". Figure out how to repeat the process. As you progress, you can tweak things to run smoother and faster.

I'm not saying you should make plans to get rich on eBay, but I am saying that with the right tools, some education and hard work, it's not that difficult to make a living on eBay.

What other business could you start which costs so little to get started? You can't go open a retail store without a serious investment. You can't build a factory and start making something you love to make without a pile of money.

With eBay, you can do that. You can easily turn $100 into much more. You can even get started without money. Starting a consignment business is an option and a quite profitable one.

All you really need to do is learn the basics of eBay. You can do this by reading over most of my articles on this site. Once you do that, let people know that you're selling on eBay and you may be surprised. They will often ask you to sell things for them. Just make sure you have agreements in place and in writing before you sell. The last thing you want to do is sell your neighbor's old sailboat and have him decide he doesn't want to sell it or wants more for it after you've already sold the thing.

So that's it. You can make a living on eBay. Anyone can make a living on eBay. The question is can YOU!

Essential Details To Consider Before Buying A Home Alarm Security System

The safety and security of your home should rank high among your list of priorities as a homeowner. That's why you should invest in a proper home security system which would serve your purposes. Most homes just install standard home security systems that don't really provide for reliable security features. Others try to go with sophisticated and expensive systems without assessing first whether or not these are appropriate. Plus, there are those who just opt for the cheapest systems out there, even if they are practically useless. So before you go and buy one for your home, get some details straightened out first.

The first and most important thing you should do is to make a careful evaluation of your home. Just how big is it, including the grounds? How many exits and entrances are there, like your doors and windows? Who are currently living in your household and what are their respective ages? How many rooms are there? The answers to these questions will help you determine the most appropriate security system to purchase. Next, you have to survey the various kinds of systems being sold on the market. There are so many types available so be meticulous enough.

In general, these security systems may either be wired or wireless. This is where you have to be careful because you need to choose what's most suitable for your home's security needs. Wired systems are generally cheaper, but they also have a few drawbacks. One of these is the fact that you have to have an expert install the same. If you want a full-blown wired system with cameras, sensors, and all, it will be very difficult unless you call in a professional. Usually, they prefer to install when the house is still being constructed. Wireless systems are more practical. However, they have limited features, too.

Hence, the third tip is to consult with a professional before you make your purchase. Unless you have determined that a wireless system is best for your home, consulting with an expert is encouraged. There are companies that provide for no-obligation inspections on your home to determine the right system to be installed. Last but not the least, choose a system that is user-friendly. If most of the people in your household are technophobes, it would not bode well to have a very complicated system set up. In case a malfunction occurs, it would prove difficult for everyone. So go over these details thoroughly before finalizing your purchase.

Deciding If You Need Supplemental Insurance

If you have major medical expenses, and not all of your treatments are covered by your carrier, you might need to consider some type of supplemental insurance. This could be a wise investment before all of your savings are gone.

One thing to keep in mind, this type of policy is never meant to replace your regular coverage, only to add to it. Certain expenses are not covered by your regular policy, they would be paid out of pocket by you, but there are companies whose sole purpose is to cover these types of expenses.

With your primary policy, you might be required to pay a deductible, or perhaps meet a copayment. With a supplemental policy, some of these expenses could be paid, or they might provide a lump sum that would allow you to use the money in a manner that you see fit.

Instead of the money given at one time, some agencies will give you the reimbursement over a period of time. This will vary from carrier to carrier, so do some research before you sign any paperwork. In this way, you will know in advance how the payments work.

There are quite a few very good companies to choose from, and like a regular agencies, they have regulations to meet. Some take a certain type of client only. Some companies will only cover people who are on Medicare already, others do not want people to be on this program yet.

If you are critically ill, and you are having trouble with your primary provider, having an additional plan that will cover special doctors, or travel, or experimental treatments, could be very advantageous for you.

But in addition to this, that secondary coverage could also help with your day to day living costs, or either help with the household or your children. All of this will help ease the stress your family is already going through due to the illness.

If you are required to stay in the hospital for an extended period you could also receive help with this. With this you could receive either a cash payment up front, or probably more convenient financially, a weekly amount to help with expenses.

Another type of supplement is the accidental death policy. This would pay in the event that a person dies or suffers a loss of limb, eyesight, or is paralyzed in an accident of some sort.

But is this coverage necessary for most of us, or just another way for the insurance companies to make money. If there is a history of certain illnesses in your family, or if you travel a lot by trains or planes, this could be a very good plan for you and your family.

Choose wisely before deciding if you need supplemental insurance. If you think it is necessary, find a reputable company that handles what you need, and pays in a way that is acceptable to you. Be sure that it covers all of the out of pocket expenses that you think you might be incurring.
